Apps & Experiments

Products, tools, and experiments with a bit more character than the average utility page.

This collection brings together smaller applications and experiments built for practical use, curiosity, or both. Some are fuller products, some are straightforward tools you can use immediately in the browser, and others are more atmospheric or exploratory, but still built with proper attention to detail.

The common thread is simple: useful software, readable ideas, and interfaces that feel intentional rather than disposable.

What is here

Key products, analysis tooling, audio experiments, and interactive oddities.

The set ranges from identity and productivity products to binary and firmware inspection, puzzles, calculator tools, teletext-inspired storytelling, and a small binaural-beat generator.

How to read the page

Open whichever tool looks useful. The summaries below explain what each one does and what sort of problem it is meant to solve.

Catalogue

Nine projects, tools, and experiments.

Productivity

DarkMatter

An ADHD-friendly project and task manager built to turn large goals into manageable actions, with a strong emphasis on recovery, realistic planning, and actually getting started.

Identity & access

BlackWall

A WebAuthn-only OAuth 2.1 and OpenID Connect authorisation server with PKCE, multi-tenant projects, JWT or opaque tokens, named privilege levels, audit logging, introspection, revocation, rate limiting, and a dedicated user portal.

Investigation

Forensics Suite

A fuller browser-based forensic workbench for inspecting binary files, comparing artefacts, exploring structures, and working through investigative tasks without leaving the browser.

Binary editing

Hex Editor

A browser hex editor for opening, inspecting, annotating, and modifying binary data, with analysis panels layered in when raw bytes alone are not enough.

Firmware analysis

BoRIS

A binwalk-style reverse-engineering tool that scans firmware and other binary blobs in the browser, helping identify embedded files, signatures, entropy shifts, and extractable regions.

Audio tool

Binaural Beats Lab

A lightweight audio experiment for generating binaural tones in the browser, adjusting frequency pairs, and trying out presets without extra software.

Interactive fiction

Mode 7

A teletext-inspired horror story presented as an interactive browser experience, built more like a deliberate atmosphere piece than a conventional web page.

Puzzles

Sudoku Solver

A browser-based Sudoku tool for building grids, generating puzzles, checking mistakes, stepping through solutions, and solving boards either instantly or visually.

Utility

Calculator

A more capable calculator for scientific, graphing, conversion, and general problem-solving tasks when a basic four-function calculator is not enough.

Analysis Tools

The heavier end of the collection: binary work, firmware inspection, and browser forensics.

Forensics Suite

A broader environment for investigative workflows

Forensics Suite is the most capable of the group. It is aimed at cases where you want more than a plain hex view: file comparison, structure handling, steganography work, decompiler support, format-specific panels, and supporting tools that make investigation less fragmented.

In practical terms, it is for the moment when a browser tool needs to feel like a real workbench rather than a quick demo.

Hex Editor

Direct binary inspection without unnecessary ceremony

Hex is the cleaner, more focused sibling: useful when you want to open a binary, understand the layout, inspect offsets, and make precise edits. It keeps the essential hex-editing workflow front and centre while still offering extra analysis when needed.

That makes it a good fit for debugging file formats, checking binary structures, or exploring data by hand when automatic tooling is not quite enough.

BoRIS

Firmware and signature analysis in the browser

BoRIS is shaped around firmware-style analysis. It looks for recognisable signatures, shows entropy patterns, and helps identify the embedded pieces inside a larger binary blob.

If the question is “what is buried in this file?”, BoRIS is the one to open first.

Experiments

Smaller builds that lean more into mood, sensation, or playful exploration.

Sudoku Solver

A more hands-on puzzle tool for generating boards, checking errors, taking hints, and watching solution strategies play out step by step rather than simply dumping the answer.

Open project

Binaural Beats Lab

A compact sound tool for trying frequency combinations and binaural presets in real time. It is simple to use, but still flexible enough to feel like an actual instrument rather than a gimmick.

Open project

Mode 7

A teletext-flavoured horror experiment with a strong visual voice. It is less about utility and more about delivering a specific atmosphere through code, typography, colour, and pacing.

Open project

Calculator

A practical multi-purpose calculator for the moments where you need something a bit more serious than the default calculator bundled with an operating system or phone.

Open project

Key Projects

The two larger product ideas sitting closest to the centre of the work.

DarkMatter

Task management shaped around real attention, not idealised productivity.

DarkMatter is built for people whose work does not happen in a neat straight line. It is aimed at reducing the friction of starting, recovering momentum after interruption, and breaking vague, difficult work into something concrete enough to act on.

The result is a calmer, more realistic project tool for people who need structure that helps rather than structure that performs.

BlackWall

OAuth, OpenID Connect, and WebAuthn-based access control as a proper product.

BlackWall provides OAuth 2.1 with mandatory PKCE, OpenID Connect discovery and ID tokens, WebAuthn-only authentication, multi-tenant project separation, flexible token formats, and named privilege levels per project.

It also includes audit logging, token introspection and revocation, rate limiting, a dedicated OAuth login flow, and a user portal for managing projects and WebAuthn security keys.

If you want software that is useful, distinctive, or a bit unusual, this is the general direction.

These applications sit somewhere between practical tooling and technical curiosity. If that overlap is close to what you need, get in touch.
